Today’s release of XPoster 4.2.0 and XPoster Pro 3.2.0 is a major release with one significant new feature: posting to Mastodon instances.
It’s just one feature, but since XPoster has been a one-service plugin since 2008, there was quite a lot to do to update it to support more than one service. On the plus-side, this also opens up the potential for additional services in the future.
Mastodon is considerably easier to set up for posting than X.com, but there are also a lot fewer resources available to help you figure it out. To help, I’ve added a document on connecting XPoster to Mastodon.
Like X.com, you need to create an application in your Mastodon instance and authenticate with it. Unlike X.com, this requires only one authentication key and no complicated authentication process.
